Andreas Herrmann graduated in business administration at the Coblenz School of Corporate Management (WHU) in 1988 with the title 'Diplom-Kaufmann'. After having studied at the WHU and the Kellog Graduate School of Management from 1988 to 1990 he received is doctoral degree in 1991. Andreas Hermann initially began working towards his 'habilitation' at the WHU before moving on to the University of Mannheim where he received his venia (qualifying him to teach at professorial level) in business administration in 1996. He was appointed the chair of business administration and marketing at the University of Mainz in 1997. In 1999 he became Director of the Center for Market-Oriented Product and Production Management. One year later he assumed the role of research coordinator of the Joint Executive MBA Program of the University of Mainz and the University of Texas at Austin.
Andreas Herrmann moved to the University of St. Gallen in the year 2000 where he became Director of the Institute for Media and Communication Management. From 2004 until 2009 he was Director of the University's Centre for Business Metrics. In 2006 he also took on responsibility for the Audi Lab for Market Research. Since January 2009 he is the Director of the Center for Customer Insight (together with Prof. Dr. Torsten Tomczak and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Jenewein).
Andreas Herrmann has published 15 books and more than 250 scientific papers and articles, in many cases in leading international journals such as the Journal of Marketing or the Journal of Marketing Research.
Since 1996 Andreas Herrmann has collaborated with colleagues at the University of Michigan, Columbia University, and MIT. He offered courses at University of Bologna and the University of Karlstad and is involved in numerous research projects with colleagues.
Alongside his academic work Andreas Herrmann also collaborates with many companies. He has many years of experience managing cooperation projects with Audi, Porsche, Lufthansa, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Telekom, DaimlerChrysler, Swiss, Roche, RWE, SAP, Motorola, Deutsche Bahn, McKinsey, BASF, Siemens and others. He is also the founder of the management consultancies 2hm in Mainz and 4hm in St. Gallen. He lectures as part of numerous executive programmes at the University of St. Gallen and at other European universities
